Chili Vanilli
Chili Vanilli : French Vanilla and Sweet Orange and Chili Pepper combine to make a sweet, fruity, zesty scent!

"March Madness" Means Record Growth for 2006 & New Products!
March 2006 will be remembered for many great things! It was the Month when we first introduced our Simmer Pots and Mia Melts, two products that we foresee to be huge sellers over the years.

We had our record day for enrolling new distributors! Kathy Schneider, of Texas, was the first to attain the coveted Triple Diamond Rank, and we introduced our Rising Stars Award at the Spring Fling.

A new recruiting T-Shirt was introduced along with a potential “best seller” scent: Chili Vanilli!

And...We had our All Time Record Month For Sales!

Two Exciting NEW Products Introduced at Spring Fling

mia melts and simmer potTwo exciting NEW products were introduced at Spring Fling. Our new Scent-Simmer™ Pot is an electric potpourri pot which uses a 40 watt bulb to heat and disperse scents. Upon introduction of the pot over 600 were sold in the first 48hrs!

Mia Melts™ are an incredible new option for scenting your room or office using a flameless Mia Bella Natural wax product. The Mia Melts™ are scented with an extra burst of perfume to make them the strongest scented product in our program (and we bet it’s the strongest scented potpourri wax product in the universe!)

Message About the Spring Fling From CEO: Bob Scocozzo
Mia Melts are warming up all over North America! The New Scent-Simmer Pots that were introduced at Spring Fling are in and they are going out the door fast! Over 600 sold in first 48 hours after arrival!

Spring Fling 2006 was the Best One Yet! People started arriving on Tuesday and Wednesday, touring the corporate headquarters and the factory and the fun started right then and there!

On Thursday the Directors and Senior Directors were treated to massages and facials at the Atmosphere Spa and Salon and on Thursday evening they all arrived at the Pick A Deli Restaurant and were escorted to a private room where everyone ate gourmet food till they were full! (oh yes, we discussed “the future!!”)

On Friday morning we had our Leadership Breakfast for more than fifty distributors who have achieved Double Diamond Status or above along with a special invited team of “rising stars!”

The Spring Fling “officially” started at 11 am Friday morning with the introduction of the Scent-Simmer Pots and the new Mia Melts along with our hot new (and exclusive to Mia Bella's) scent CHILI VANILLI. A great new t-shirt with the Mia Vanilli Theme was also introduced!

Deb Warren received the “Top Gun” Sponsor Award and we introduced the new Rising Stars award, which is given to field leaders who have been recognized by their Director and Senior Director Team mates as new up and coming leaders in Scent-Sations, Inc.

Friday Evening was “socializing” (ok, it was really Party Time!!) and Yes, the pool and hot tub were filled to capacity most of the evening!

Saturday morning started with the usual “giveaways” and for us it's one of our favorite parts of the Flings! Lots of great training was given on Friday and Saturday.

After “daytime workshops” it was once again time to hit the pool and hot tub and by 7 pm everyone was talking up a storm at the cocktail hour...all very excited about what they saw and learned at Spring Fling!

Karaoke started soon after and didn’t stop until close to 1 O’clock in the morning, with Dave Lewis and Pete Canavan closing out the evening!

Fall is right around the corner and we will have room for 600 people this fall so book early (many people have already booked their rooms at the Woods!) We will offer an early bird special soon so book early and reserve your room for Fall Fling 2006!

Success Tips From the Playroom

Deb Warren

The Playroom: This is the place where it all began, the decision to get started with Scent Sations, and the place that continues to be the backdrop each day in the journey of building our family business. Usually decisions are made in the boardroom, but our playroom is magical. There’s an innocence and high energy of youth that prevails among the four walls of the room decorated with wispy clouds floating in a blue sky. This energy feels no boundaries or fears. It’s a place where dreams are made and the keys to success are abundant.

Wooden trains are chugging around the tracks with confidence in their never-ending journey. Puzzle pieces are scattered on the floor ready to connect a vision of greatness. The art table is full of crayons, markers, colored paper, and scissors; all the tools to design and build a masterpiece. Books on the shelves are overflowing with promising stories of inspiration, wisdom, and adventure.

In one corner of the room is my toy, the computer, the machine that is my late night buddy, my invitation to connect with others who share the same desire to create an extra-ordinary life with this wild and crazy candle business.

It’s in this room that I find the wind beneath my wings and learn the most valuable lessons. As I play with my children each day, I watch as they problem solve, fearlessly try new things, act with determination and achieve new milestones. I’ve gathered great wisdom from my little balls of fire, Oliver and Sophia.

I’d like to share with you the wisdom I’m learning from my children and how they have become my Success Habits:

1) Forget about Paint by Number – Trust yourself and create your future. Paint a vision of the life you wish to lead. This will be your tapestry for inspiration and daily action. Acknowledge all the tools and resources available to you, focus on the opportunity of what can be accomplished with your personal gifts, rather than lack or scarcity. As soon as you trust yourself, you’ll know how to live.

2) Eat Your Broccoli – Be open to change and trying new things. Realize that change equals possibilities and an opportunity to grow your experiences and expand your world. Learn to live with the uncertainly at hand, yet act with boldness and confidence.

Recognize that fear, change, and adventure are synonyms.

3) Try, Try, again – When faced with a challenge, focus on what’s right with the situation. Believe that solutions exist, and keep looking for the next possible answer. Commit to the results you’re looking for in all areas of your life. Move beyond your best and take yourself to the edge, follow that edge wherever it goes.

4) Read a bedtime story nightly – Gaining knowledge is the responsibility of people who want to go for greatness. Invest in your personal development, and assume your roll as a life long learner. Absorb the wisdom of the experts and implement what you learn.

5) Get in the Game – You can’t play small on the field of life. Get in the game, play big, and give your all for your dream, vision, and the opportunity. Be a champion for the successes of your team players. Have fun and take massive action.

It was an honor to receive the Top Gun Sponsor award and celebrate the moment with the entire Scent Sations family of friends. I’ll always remember embracing my daughter, Sophia, as her tiny little voice reached the microphone and she shared our great story. I felt her arm tighten around my neck as she said, “My daddy has quit his job and will be a stay at home dad.” It still brings tears to my eyes.

As I shared at the Spring Fling, a family friend and mentor once told me, “Success and growth occurs at the crossroads of courage and opportunity”. For Brad and I, our children have given us the courage to take action on our dreams. Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather, the judgment that something else is more important than fear.

Our “why” is enfolding and yet the true journey is just beginning. Bob, Charlie, Lynn and Carmen have given each of us the opportunity. Reach inside and find your wings of courage, as you do, you’ll begin traveling the road between who you are and who you will become.

Take the journey!

The Artists Behind the Great Chili Pepper T Shirts!

Randy & Lovie Welsh with Carmen

Randy and Lovie Welsh, started working with Carmen and Lynn when the company was Carlyns, a successful paraffin candle company specializing in fundraising throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania.

When Carmen and Lynn joined forces with Bob and Charlie, Randy and Lovie were excited to be on board for what they also felt was going to be “something BIG!” Both work in the Research and Development Section of the company.

Randy, who hails from Fairmont, West Virginia attended art school in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and has an associate degree in art design. “I've always loved drawing and all things having to do with art so it was a natural choice for me when It came to my college career.” Says Randy

A few years ago Randy happened up on a wood carving show while channel surfing and it really caught his attention. “I went outside and started picking up small pieces of wood and I realized that I wanted to do what they were doing on that show. I went out and bought everything I would need to get started carving wood and fell in love with it.”
Randy now owns his own home based art business, specializing in wood carvings, paintings, and hand carved signs.

When Carmen started designing new candles in the shape of items he opted to try for a cinnamon bun first. He asked the then newbie wood carver, Randy if he could help him with the design by making some carvings and they were so good that Carmen had molds made and every Mia Bella Cinnamon Bun that is purchased and sold bears the distinction of coming from a one of a kind hand carved Randy Welsh wood sculpture!

“Carmen had me working on some other “secret projects” that one day, I'm sure, will become a part of the Scent-Sations Mia Bella Line of candle crafted products, but I'm sworn to secrecy!!” laughs Randy.

When Randy found out that Scent-Sations was going to introduce the Sweet Orange and Chill Pepper candle with an accompanying T-Shirt, he asked for the chance to develop the design. The result was the beautiful top selling yellow Sweet Orange and Chili Pepper T Shirt that has been an outstanding success since its introduction at Spring Fling 2005

Naturally, Scent-Sations asked Randy to put together a design for the new sky blue Chili Vanilli T-shirt that was a huge hit at the latest Spring Fling! Both T-Shirts are still available for distributors to purchase!

“Lovie has been a huge help and she is not only my biggest promoter but also my best critic...she is absolutely honest in her opinion of any direction I decide to go in and its been a huge help!” says dutiful hubby, Randy. Lovie asked us if she could do some family promotion in this story and we said...”great idea...have at it!”

Lovie wants the field to know that her 13 year old son, Randall Lee Welsh is not only the best looking boy in his school but has brains too! “He has achieved honors with distinction from Lake Lehman High School and we already know he will probably rule a large country and possibly even the world!” Lovie has two “grown up” children, Danielle and Gregory Falzone and Lovie feels that they also have the capability to rule a small country one day!

"Rising Stars" Thoughts on Spring Fling 2006
Kari AndersenThis is not going to be easy to convey how great this last week at Spring Fling was... not at all.

Just a little background.  I joined this candle company almost a year and a half ago without ever being involved with another network marketing company or anything like it.  I was a middle school teacher and then a stay-at-home-mom.

I have never been to a company convention or any type of convention other than church related activities. So this whole experience was new to me.

My sponsor said I should go to company events so I do. The last two Flings were wonderful and I even brought my son to the last one so he could meet everyone and see how the candles are made.

But this Fling was like none other for me...

I arrived at the resort on Wednesday evening and I was very glad for that.  I was able to get rested up for what was to come!

On Thursday, we had a pre-Fling team meeting with Jackie.  Charlie told us the story of the company and the vision he has for the future of this amazing product and company.  He has such a gift for sharing the vision.

Then it was off to the factory and company headquarters for a tour. WOW! You can smell the
candles a block away!  I knew we were getting close.

When you walk in you are greeted by the amazing scents and warm greetings from a staff that is dedicated to make this the best business experience for the distributors. They make each and every person feel as if they were the only one in the building and as if they were life long friends.

After the tour, it was off to lunch with a group of friends that I had met at the last Flings and also some new friends.  We laughed so hard and the energy from like-minded people who are a heck of a lot of fun is just intoxicating.

That night we celebrated Cherrie Fishlowitz's birthday in her "Honeymoon Suite" and stayed up late chatting and laughing with great friends.

The next day, Friday, was the first official day of the Fling and it started with a bang.

I was asked to be a guest at the Leadership Breakfast which consisted of Corporate, Senior Directors, Directors and Double and Triple Diamonds!  I felt so honored and I was looking forward to this breakfast more than anything else!!! I thought that this was going to be the highlight of the Fling for me and the rest would just be gravy.  It WAS great but I found out that it was only the beginning!!

After breakfast, we went to the restaurant area for Jackie's meeting and she had so much to share with all of us and then we honored her with a tiara, feather boa and a "Queen of Diamonds" award.  We were all crying because we appreciate her so much for all her hard work and care for us.

Then it was off to the big gathering and the opening ceremony.  There were greetings from the owners Carmen, Lynn, Charlie and Bobby. Bob Schmitz always is the Master of Ceremonies and does a fabulous job with that.

What happened next was very surprising and thrilling.  They gave out beautiful plaques to those in the company who aren't quite at the Double Diamond level but who are building large teams and working their business really hard.

I WON ONE OF THOSE AWARDS!  It's called the "Rising Star" award.  I was so shocked and very humbled because I stood on stage with people who I consider giants in this business and there I was with them! Ahhhh!

The rest of the day was dreamy with training sessions and guest speakers.  I was in awe of all the talented and passionate people in the room.  We have so many wonderful people in our company and I have so much to learn from all of them.

Then it was cocktails and appetizers in the evening and lots of great laughs and conversations about business and fun.

I woke up on Saturday feeling very uneasy because I knew that I had to give my speech that day....ugh!  I was so scared and my stomach gets queasy just remembering how I felt that morning.  I read over my speech and had a peace about the content but I was still really nervous.

That day was another fantastic day of training, product give-aways and guest speakers.  I just loved hearing how to set goals by Kelly Wissink and make tear-off flyers with scent samples attached by Lise Mac Fadden.  Charlie shared how to bring in Top Gun Business builders into our businesses and once again gave me goose bumps when he showed the graph that illustrated how well our company is doing.

Then it was time...

I told Rochelle, who was sitting next to me that I hated the way I felt right then and that I would NEVER do this again.  But Bob Schmitz introduced me and I had no choice but to go up.

I got up and told my first joke and people laughed so I calmed down a little.  I also noticed that everyone was smiling at me....really.  I have never felt so loved and supported by so many people at one time. I found Jackie and a couple other people in the audience and they were my "happy faces."  That was Darlene Mitchell's advice.  I felt calm when I looked at them.

As my speech progressed, I got more and more comfortable and I started to ad lib and I got sillier and sillier.  When I finally ended my speech and I got a standing ovation from everyone in the room, I felt a rush like none other and I just kept saying, "I did it!  I really did it!"  You see, that was my first speech to a large crowd ever!

When I sat down, Charlie came over and whispered to me that they are extending my speech time limit at the Fall Fling!  Ugh.... I guess you should never say never!

The rest of the meeting that day was a blur and I don't remember much until dinner.  The big dinner dance is always fun and I usually have a great time.

One of my goals for this Fling was to sing karaoke.  I've been a singer my whole life but I'm always too shy to sing at the Fling.  I wanted to push myself to do something uncomfortable and step out of my comfort zone so I made myself do it.

The Directors and Senior Directors had to pick a partner for the Karaoke Contest and Deb Warren chose me to be her partner.  How fun to see people's expressions when they heard us belt out "The Greatest Love" by Whitney Houston.  We tied with Jackie Ulmer and John Mac Fadden and were each given a $100 credit to our accounts with the company!

Woo hoo!  I did it!

The next day we went over to the warehouse to pick up some product before heading to Philadelphia to catch a plane to go home.

But before Cherrie and Mitch dropped me off at the airport, we went into the heart of Philly and went to world famous Jim's to get a Philly Cheese Steak.  OH  MY GOODNESS!  That is good food!  Thanks Cherrie and Mitch for humoring me and taking me there!

So this is just MY account of Spring Fling and there were hundreds of other people who were there and each one of them has their own story.  Ask them to share it with you.

You will be blown away by the common thread of what an amazing company we are involved with and how lucky we are to have found it when we did.

See you at the Fall Fling!

I've always supported Patti in this business, but after attending my first fling, my support went from basic "cheerleading" to a much more active role.  I always come away from the flings with something valuable and positive, not only for the candle business, but life in general.  Scent-Sations has been a great resource for personal development for us both.  I left this spring Fling with such a positive energy that I'm sure will last until November.  By then, I might need a recharge.

Paul Price

I look forward to each and every fling!  I always tell team members that once you go to a fling, you'll never (want to) miss another one.  They are so full of energy, learning, friends, and positive experiences - why in the world WOULDN'T you go?  I'm so glad they're held twice a year!  This way you're guaranteed to be on fire with your business the whole year!

It was such an honor to be one of the recipients of the Rising Star Award.  It's so very special to me and Paul.  He's my main partner in our business and as we were driving home to St. Louis, we talked about our weekend (didn't everybody?) and he told me that he wanted to step up his support and role in the business and take recruiting a little more seriously!  That's fantastic!  I feel like each fling has just elevated our belief in the company, network marketing, and ourselves, and to know that he is now a full-fledged believer/partner (which I know he always was), I am even more excited.  I can't wait to see what the future holds for us in Scent-Sations (well, actually, I DO know what some of the future holds, thanks to my "dream board" <smile>) and that is so so exciting and empowering.

Many people asked me what the best part of the weekend was for me personally.  I have to say that it was Sophia Warren's announcement to everyone that her dad was able to retire from his job!  WOW!  That alone spoke volumes to me about what we have to offer people.  And it was especially touching to me since Deb is my sponsor and I've gotten to know her over the last couple of years and see that she's a real person who's worked hard at her business, put in the time and hours with "possibility thinkers" and team members alike, and show us all that it IS very possible and very real to have the kind of life you desire.  It's always simply a matter of - How bad do you want it?

Thanks to Deb for being a continual inspiration for me; thanks to those who chose me and Paul for such an awesome award; and thanks to Bobby, Charlie, Carmen, and Lynn for having the vision of a company that empowers us all.  And of course, thanks to my husband, partner, and friend, Paul, without whose support and love I wouldn't have reached this milestone.

vandornBill and I were able to take our daughter Savanah with us this trip, my son Garrett is a senior and he had an award’s banquet scheduled so I had to make the very difficult decision to leave him and not be there for this moment. It was a difficult decision as a mother, but I knew as a business woman focused on our family’s long term success that going to Fling was a choice that I had to make. Garrett had family that were able to be there and I have shared all other special moments in his senior year. Bill and I have made the decision to do whatever it takes to succeed in our goals with this business, that may sometimes mean difficult choices and seeming sacrifices but as we got on the road for the drive to PA I began to let go of the guilt and know that it was ultimately the right choice.

We drove through the tornado devastation of just a couple days before in the next state, and the sun was shining and I thought, this trip is blessed. As we drove I called and touched base with some of our leads (when there was service) that are waiting for the right moment to join us, and introduced myself to fresh ones.

It was clear sailing to PA and we arrived in time to get a good night’s sleep and attend Jackie’s team meeting Thursday morning with Charlie Umphred.

I have listened to Charlie many many times and have always been impacted by his experience and sharing, but never before like I was this morning. Timing is everything, and on this morning I REALLY heard Charlie’s words. Everything he said found a place in my conscious. This is how the weekend began, and it really set the pace.

This was punctuated by the sense of pride that Bill and I felt being invited to attend the Leadership Breakfast. We were in such good company at this breakfast, it was an honor and a very special memory.

Then it was off to Jackie’s team meeting Friday morning. The number of distributor’s on Jackie’s team that were there was amazing, and then feeling the pride as some of the girls presented her with the much deserved Crown and Boa as the “Queen of Diamonds”! There are just so many special moments that you are able to be a part of above and beyond the Fling, and Jackie ALWAYS makes it an experience for her team!

Then it was finally here, the time to take your seats in the huge, beautifully done room. The first thing that struck me when I walked into the room this year was how everything had grown. Everything was on a grander scale. The seating now went clear to the back of the immense room, the stage was larger and centrally located to accommodate not one, but TWO SCREENS at the front of the room for ease of viewing with the increased seating! This was my first impression, and one of pride in corporate and Pete and his team and everyone that put such obvious thought into preparing this room and event for us, and pride also in the visible signs of growth of our company that were obvious in this room. And then it began….

Fling is not only an opportunity to share trainings, vision, and knowledge, it is an opportunity to gain personal insight into the people we are now sharing our lives with through this business.

Seeing Deb Warren’s beautiful family and the beautiful grace with which she teaches and shares with us. The moment when her daughter and she announced the realization of their goal to bring their dad home. Deb has such grace, she and her family touched me like never before.

Kelly Wissink sharing her quiet, calm, and always powerful presentation with Curt’s special effects, they were so innovative with their presentation, and then the moment that she shared with us how her husband, Curt “finished the race” in his mind. Everyone in the room felt the power of that moment.

Kari Anderson’s wonderful sharing that had everyone laughing. She was a delight and is a natural! And Gail Wahl’s story about never giving up her beliefs and using the momentum of the snowball to reach her goals. Awesome!

Our dear friends John and Judy Handrahan shared with everyone the move that this business has made possible. They are literally LIVING this business and a new lifestyle that is incredible! We are so proud of them! I was so proud of them when they were called up for their “Rising Star” award, as I was for everyone, and then Charlie called Bill and I up for ours, I nearly broke in tears I was so surprised. It was a moment I will always remember. Being recognized like this with the other incredible people that also received this award was so profound for me, and as I stood up there, I sent my thoughts and feelings out to all of our team partners that were a part of making that moment possible. Bill and I are truly blessed with a wonderful, talented, and dear family of distributors and they all had a piece of ownership in our award.

Listening to the personal stories of other leaders like Donna Davis, Dave Lewis, and so many others was so informative and inspirational. Every one of these distributors and their stories were inspirational and had the potential for revealing an additional piece of someone in the audience’s puzzle of success. That is why everyone’s story and experience is valuable, and the room was brim full of those stories! How powerful it was, sitting there taking it all in.

This is an event rich in discovery, where you can discover that Bob Schmitz is also a very talented artist. The level that Shep believes in his passion for this business and how he shares that. That Jan, is his passion and his why. That Jan also has a gift for sharing and public speaking. John and Lise MacFadden shared with us that you can suffer heartbreaking loss and still your business will grow adding an eventual layer of comfort. That Paul Hobson is a deep man with a focus and talent of simplifying this opportunity that is powerful in it’s simplicity.

You will discover that we all should be grateful for Carmen's challenges because he excels in rising to them to the benefit of ALL of us. That Lynn is his heart and anchor and is the other half of a very special partnership that again blesses ALL of us.

The discovery that Charlie has a mind that thrives on numbers, but he also believes in the magic of this company, and has the experience that will lead us all to the realization of our goals and beyond if we listen carefully and apply his knowledge to our individual businesses. That Bobby is a very special man with a wonderful heart for children and family that I have never appreciated more than I did this Fling. If you could have seen how naturally and sincerely he interacted with Savanah you would never question the integrity, and very special heart of this company and what they want for each of your families, especially this man that sits in the CEO chair.

How many presidents of a nationwide company do you know that would dance with a young girl in a wheelchair? And by the way...another discovery...Bobby has great rhythm. All of the Scent-Sations staff and family do, whether on the dance floor, managing and effectively growing our company, or in their hearts. How very blessed we are.

Fling for us was an ever changing Kaleidoscope of experiences that continually traveled the spectrum and back again. The rich layers of emotions, knowledge, vision, trainings, sharing, and insight that are yours to forever keep are one of the few things in our business that cannot be duplicated. It is an experience that can only be attained by your presence, but what an incredibly rich value! A value that will change your “Who” and quite possibly give you a whole new “Why”.

I have shared with all of you that our daughter Savanah and her future long term security and that of my other children and grandchildren is our “Why”. That “why” became even more focused as I saw the interaction of our Mia Bella Family with Savanah, and the way she was embraced and welcomed by everyone. Savanah has that very special gift of being open to everyone. Every day is a positive experience for her in spite of her daily challenges. This is why she is not just my daughter, she is my teacher, my hero, my grounding influence, my daily example of humbleness and true appreciation for the smallest things in life, and my “why”.

vandornHow very special it was for me to see her dancing in her wheelchair on the dance floor with Charlie, Bobby, John and Judy Handrahan (Savanah loves them both and poor John didn’t have a chance, but he was still walking at the end of the evening lol), John MacFadden, Larry and Janie Griese, and a wonderful line up of others. Savanah is a true “Party Girl” and she refuses to sit out a dance. Even in her wheelchair, she doesn’t dwell on her limitations, or even think about them, to her it is all about the dance, and making the most of every opportunity to fulfill that dance. Can you see why she is such an inspiration and role model for me? When I am feeling tired or overwhelmed by sometimes crazy pace of our business, she reminds me to ask myself, do I really want to dwell on my limitations, do I want to sit out a dance that might be best of my life?

I walk to the computer or phone on my two sound legs, and begin again. The rhythm and love of this business that we experienced at Fling is a continuation of this dance. It was a weekend that belonged to Savanah, and our “Why” made the most of it. Thank you to Lynn, Carmen, Bobby, Charlie, Jackie, John & Lise, Pete, Adam, Shelby, and all of the corporate staff, and our extended Mia Bella Family as always. I can honestly say Charlie’s words really hit home like never before, and Jackie’s impact on me was even more powerful. Thank you all for Savanah’s dance and our Fling experience.

gailwahlMy name is Gail Wahl and I have been a distributor with Scent-Sations for 15 months. This has been the best ride of my life.

Going to Spring Fling in March was my 2nd "Fling" experience. I also had the opportunity to go in October of 2005. I had thought Fall Fling was an incredible experience, but the company outdid themselves at Spring Fling. It would be easy for the company to do the same thing because it worked and it was done well in the Fall, but my experience has been that Scent-Sations is never satisfied with what they have done well in the past and are always shooting for how they can be better.

An area that I felt really excelled was how many different people they involved in the presentations. Each of our Directors do a great job of presenting to us at the Flings, but the company stirred things up a little and invited some "aspiring" Directors to share some of their successes/stories. I was blessed to be one of those. This was a growing and exciting experience. I felt this was an incredible way to grow others into leadership.

At the same time, the Directors had identified "Rising Stars" in their groups and invited them to the Directors Breakfast and then surprised us all with "Rising Star" awards during conference time. What an honor this was to have been singled out by my mentors. To me this showed, once again, that the true vision of this company is to grow and develop leaders that will grow and develop other leaders and so on and so forth. It isn't about hoarding all the fame and fortune for themselves. That is so obvious to me.

I have been inspired to grow and develop leaders in my own team and to continue to spread the vision for the success of this company.

Thank you so much, Charlie, Bobbie, Carmen and Lynn for providing a way for so many of us to fulfill dreams we never new we even had.

May you all continue to be blessed richly for your kindness, compassion and integrity.

Dynamic Mom/Daughter Team Are Two "Rising Stars"
Editor's Note: Ann and Tirzah Duncan were named “Rising Stars” at the Spring Fling and if you’ve ever met this dynamic mom/daughter team you know why!

Yes, it’s true. My daughter, Tirzah, beat me to it by filling out an on-line questionnaire while researching businesses. And Jackie Ulmer called her, not realizing that Tirzah was only 10 years old!

But I was searching, too. Some criteria that would make a business a “perfect fit” for me?

  • A quality product I could feel great about offering
  • A company of integrity
  • Something I could actually work from home (un-like the “home” business I was working at the time!)

But, I have to say, the criteria most on my heart was: I wanted the business to be a way I could help others make money right away.

Definitely not something I saw happening for my recruits in that other home business. It bothered me even more that I was not seeing them make real money even when they were committed enough to stick around.

So, I finally met up with Jackie Ulmer. I’d heard so much about her, both on and off-line. A very successful professional. Actually working from home.

What really jumped out at me? Jackie’s clear satisfaction in helping people get started in making money right away, without the burden of high start-up or pricey autoship cost.

When my daughter and I decided to partner as Scent-Sations distributors, Tirzah was really the spark plug! This business allowed her to jump right in and be as involved as she wanted.

Her enthusiasm over our first candle shipment resulted in immediate cash (as in within minutes!) in her pocket. And quite a bit in her bank account a few days later.

She asked people, “Do you want to stick your nose in my business?” as we ran our normal errands to the post office, stores, etc. And the eager response she got, even in this area with a depressed economy, really helped me catch a glimpse of how powerful it can be to partner with a child!

Teamwork/Team play. I help Tirzah as she focuses on retail, mostly local. She helps me as I focus on team-building, mostly online. She makes up most of the scent samples that go to our prospective partners. When we work on making up flyers, etc., she’s right in there with me, helping create whatever we need. Together we find the most fun ways to work our business!

If you’ve ever met Tirzah, you know she is a little different!

Maybe part of that comes from being born in MahaSarakham,Thailand, where we were in ministry for many years. Maybe part comes from her being home-schooled, as were her older 4 siblings. Her ADHD factors in, for sure.

A distinct part of her “difference” is her business savvy, which she mixes, in a wonderful way, with her passion for fun.

Tirzah readily credits part of her “know-how” to the countless hours of training audios I’ve played in our home, and in our car, in my own quest for personal development, starting when she was 8 years old. I had figured it would be good for her to hear that material. But had no idea it would impact her like it has.

She also points to the many books she’s read on her own, such as The Greatest Networker in The World, One Minute Millionaire, Rich Dad/Poor Dad, Fish, as well as books geared more towards children.

Tirzah had an absolute blast at both Flings last year and is already itching to fly out for Spring Fling this month. She will have a ton of fun, meeting up with Charlie and Bobby and other old friends, and making lots of new ones!

Thank you, Bobby and Charlie, for this outstanding opportunity to partner with my child in a company that is SO kid-friendly.

Tirzah and I know we’ve found the “perfect fit” for us!

New Distributors Blown Away By Spring Fling 2006!
I just wanted to send you an email to say.... WOW!  What a blast!  Spring Fling 2006 was just so exciting, amazing, fun, and INSPIRING!

When I drove down to Pennsylvania, I was a little nervous at the thought of actually meeting people I had read about or heard on calls.  I was slightly intimidated since I felt I really didn't know anyone... and here I was, all by myself, at my first Fling.  But I just knew deep down that the weekend was going to be amazing, and this belief kept me from turning the car around and driving home.

Well, it didn't take long for the worry to disappear.  I met many people and everyone was so warm and welcoming... they embraced me as if I'd been part of the family for years!  I have never been in Network Marketing before, but I do know that in the corporate world, you don't come across a group of people as down to earth and kind like here at Scent-Sations very often, if at all.  I was put at ease in each instance I spoke to someone.

The speakers at Fling were absolutely INSPIRING!  The four words I have to describe Fling --exciting, amazing, fun, and of course, inspiring. <smile>  These words kept racing through my mind each time I reflected on how I enjoyed and learned so much from attending Fling.  At Jackie Ulmer's team meeting, we were asked to state our names, where we're from, and what we wanted to get out of Spring Fling.  Well, "my name is Rochelle Kapetan from Connecticut, and I want to surround myself with successful people and learn as much as I can from them."  I truly believe I did accomplish that (thanks to all especially Dawn Rohlik, Paul & Patti Price, and Kari Andersen!) and will continue to do so at each event (yes, I already booked my room for Fall!).  Since Fling, my vision has become a lot clearer on where I want to be and where I want to go with this company.  I talk constantly about goals with my husband, and take steps daily towards attaining those goals.  My confidence has grown each and every day since my trip to Pennsylvania.  My commitment to developing myself and this business, well it has skyrocketed!

kapetanOh and the new products... LOVE them!  And my customers love them too.  My father-in-law is just so excited to have the Scent-Simmer Pot and Mia Melts.  He is on oxygen and cannot have an open flame, so the Mia Melts are perfect for him!  His favorite Melts?  It's a toss up between Hot Apple Pie and Sweet Orange & Chili Pepper.  And the Bella Wear... well, here's a picture of my 4 year old, Jasmine, sporting her new beret.

Thank you Scent-Sations for everything!

RandyOver the past few years, I have attended a number of MLM conventions and seminars.

They all seemed to blend into each other after a while. They all had training, the introduction of new products and they all had the top money makers get up and tell you how  much they make a month. Then they would turn around and try to sell you over priced business building tools. Some help they where!

Well, I kind of expected some of the same at Spring Fling, but I love the products so I went. Yes, we had training (great training by the way). Yes, we had the introduction of new products
and our top leaders did speak.

But that’s where things changed. There was no hype, no trying to sell us over priced building tools. What we got was honest, caring people speaking from the heart who have fun building their businesses.

They spoke about helping other's to build and start their businesses.  Offering ideas and suggestion without regard to upline, downline or what ever. How refreshing to see and hear people giving of themselves to help others. The difference with this convention was the people from the owners of the company to the new business builders. The idea was the same, you build a successful business by helping others.

Yes, we have great products and a great pay plan, but we get so much more from our leaders. We get integrity, honesty and people who truly care about each other and want to help each other become the best they can be in business and in life and enjoy life to the fullest.

I just want to thank Bob, Charlie, Carmen and Lynn for giving us this wonderful opportunity and sharing their dreams with us. And for making us all feel like one big family.  Keep up the Good Work.

Bless you All!

Candle Fund Raiser Motivates 13 Year Old Son Big Time!

Tyler BarnhartMy son Tyler is 13 and has been extremely military obsessed since he was about four years old. He has been desperately wanting to get a jump start on his career by attending a military academy but just the summer program costs $3,000.00!

Being a single mom of four kids I told him I certainly didn't have that kind of money but if he wanted to earn the money I knew of a way....He first thought selling candles was kind of "girly" but then he agreed to try it.

I set him up with a nice black zippered 3 ring binder, a dozen samples velcro'd to a piece of upholstery fabric, a calculator, receipt book, and of course business cards in case customers had friends or relatives who wanted to support his cause.

It took some cajoling and driving him to Grandma and Grandpa's first for a confidence booster but once he'd made that first sale he was hooked! He went out in one hour after school in our neighborhood and earned $140.00 and didn't get a single "No thank-you" or "Not today"!

The next day he did the same thing going the other direction in our neighborhood and earned another $140.00 in one more hour, again, with no rejections! By now he's on fire and ready to storm the town and wants me to sign him up so he can give up his dishwashing job!

I can't believe what a great business this is that even a 13 year old 'boys boy' can go out and have so much success without any training at all! (I had typed up a little script for him to use but he never even pulled it out!) He has the rest of the town to cover and plans to go around town again each month with a different selection of scents and at this rate he will have no problem earning his way into the military academy of his choice! He is definitely teaching me the power of getting out there and just doing it! What a great opportunity!

Sincerely,
Tania Barnhart

Great Testimonials From Distributors
BoschertI started my business with my first open house this past weekend. I mailed out flyers that read "Come see just what I have been up to!"  I also put on the flyer that I had some special gifts for those who either RSVP before the open house, and/or brought a guest or two with them, and/or helped me get started with my new business by hosting a show for me. I invited about 30 guests and 20 of them showed. The other 10 want to come this Saturday because they found out that they missed out on a great thing!

As the guests arrived I greeted each of them with a rose to welcome them and let them know that they were special. Sarah, my 9-yr-old daughter, helped me so much by explaining all the products and scents we have to guests as I was trying to finish up with others and tally up their purchases. She did such a great job that everyone could not believe it! She is a natural.

The end result of my open house was: 4 show bookings, 3 catalogue bookings, someone that is very excited to hear about the business for herself, contacts with real estate agents, and $658.00 in sales!

The one thing I did was make sure that I had the "Assume The Sale Attitude". In other words, I spoke to everyone as if they wanted my products. Sarah had the same attitude and together we made a wonderful team.

I pray that all of you continue with your abundant blessings.

I just wanted to give a shout and say that I had another network party on 3/17/06 to Celebrate St. Patty's Day.  We had over 40 ladies show up to shop a variety of products from a total of 5 home businesses.  And, of course, I was happy to be the one  there representing our famous Gourmet Mia Bella's Candles.  I finally totaled up my orders and it came to $696.39. All I can say is - WOW!!!  I have a Spring Bazaar lined up for Saturday, April 1st and I hope to see the same results!

I am 38, a married, work at home mom to 3 kids, and I have been with Scent-Sations since December 27th 2004.  I have always loved candles and wanted to make more money than the measly 20% that I was making at the time.  I looked into becoming a distributor for a leading direct selling candle company so I could make the most money and noticed that it was a buy in of $5,000.00 and any subsequent purchase minimums were to be at least $1,000.00 each.

Well, that was out of the question for me .I purchased my first Mia Bella Candle through a swap group, not sure who it was purchased from (mental note that you should ALWAYS keep in contact with customers) and I burned it all the way to the bottom and noticed that there was not soot all over the jar like my other candles had and I though to myself, I need to get another one of these candles!

When I looked on the web site and saw the residual income plan that really got me interested, not to mention that these were the best candles I have ever burned and I burned a lot of candles in my time! Hubby was not thrilled at the time because this was to be my 3rd "little candle business adventure" but he sure is glad now!

Wendy Leal

I got involved with Mia Bella for many reasons,  mostly because my husband has his own business and is self employed.  I wanted my own work from home business, something I could call my own, and not have to work under people who said they were all about the customer. When it came down to it they really were not.

It was the one business adventure I found and I have been looking for years, where I did not need to have thousands of dollars to get started.  Along with the wonderful woman who contacted me back about it, explained everything in detail to me and answered all my questions open and honestly.  She just set a fire in me with her excitement that I just had to get involved!  Now that I have been involved for a bit, I'm so very glad I took the chance!

I have had all the support I could possibly need.   My sponsor is there at any time to walk me through anything I might not understand.  She takes my calls and listens to me as I ramble on about ideas and gives me some of her ideas when ever I get stuck.  There is a wonderful support system in place for all that join!

I have two children and one grandchild with allergies. After having read about these candles, I knew I had to try them.  Once I tried the product I was sold on it and knew I had to share it.

I have six children and they all love the candles and the rest of the products as well!  They truly are all that they say they are, and they truly do sell themselves.  I am having so much fun with these products sometimes I forget it is work! The best part of it all is if you decide it is just not for you,  you can get out at any time.   However,  if you're like me and truly want a job you can enjoy, a product you can stand behind, then join us!  I  truly believe you won't be sorry.

Scent-Sations Has Changed My Life!

GoreckiI went to a friend’s party thinking that it was just another candle that I wouldn’t like. I actually bought just the soap to try and she gave me a candle. I ended up trying the soap and was amazed. So I decided to burn the candle. I have allergies and so does my son so burning candles is usually something we can’t do. Where the Mia Bella's are virtually soot free I thought it was worth trying.

I burned my first votive and had no symptoms from my allergies and neither did my son. I found a candle that I could burn! I was so excited. I planned on having a show and mentioned it to family and friends and got the same response. They all said they couldn’t wait till the show. I thought well if I am getting this kind of response maybe I should join Scent-Sations and try it for myself.

I joined Scent-Sations in June of 2006. I had my first show at my home and invited everyone to it. I ended up with 4 shows booked off that one. That went so well that I decided to ask some area shops and stores if they would mind me adding my candles to there inventory. I now have 7 stores that the Mia Bella's are in. This inspired me so much that I thought “Why do I have my candles in other peoples stores and shops if I could open one here at my home.” I was storing the candles here anyway.

So with the money that I had earned from the candles so far, I built a shop. (With the help of my husband of course) We converted one of the bays of the garage into my shop. It took us a month of working hard.

GoreckiMy sons were so excited about having a shop. My oldest became my stock boy and the youngest does his best to help. They both love the candles. Every time my COTM comes they are the first to smell them. ( the little one tries to eat them)

I home school my boys so the experiences that my boys are getting from me having the business is great. They are learning the value of money and the hard work it takes to get where you want to be. They are also learning that if you set a goal and work hard enough you can accomplish that goal.

Scent-Sations has brought so much to my family. The day I joined did change my life.

Great Advice On Working Carts & Kiosks

Doing a cart for the Holidays is great. Big money and exposure to prospects in a very compressed time-frame. When people ask me about carts, the first warning I give is that this is a real mini-store! You MUST have it staffed every day, all day, 7 days a week. You MUST have a full inventory load for sales and appearance. You MUST have credit card capability, and this is a 4-yr contract, so do not take it lightly.

Those three MUSTS generally eliminate the majority of people asking about it. Yes, it can bring in a lot of money, but it is now your full time job as long as you have that cart. Do you really want that? I surely don't! That's why I've worked up the probabilities of this venture several times for Mia Bella candles, even before Scent-Sations was formed, and nixed the deal because it required so much of my time that I would not be able to do anything other than the mall cart. If I wanted a job, I'd go get one!

What if a whole team of reps staff it? I get that question often. How do you split stocking? How do you split profits? How do you manage prospects and literature? What if someone drops out? Who will do the scheduling?

What if you hire employees to staff it and hand out your literature to customers? Actually, this is less hassle than a group of reps doing it, believe it or not, but then you have EMPLOYEES to deal with? Is THAT what you want? If so, go for it because this is the ONLY scenario that makes sense when thinking about mall carts. If not, you're back at square one. As for me, I don't want employees, and that's why I won't do a mall cart.

I'm NOT saying a mall cart is impossible. It is possible, but the entire group MUST recognize that this venture absolutely requires written agreements and commitment on a long-term basis, and financial responsibilities that can get 'sticky' if this isn't set up right.

Because of what we have available to us in regard to marketing opportunities in real time and online, doing a mall cart is way way way down on my priority list of things I want to do. It CAN, and has been, done, but be very careful in the process of doing it.

Bob Schmitz: Building "Towards" & Building "During" Momentum

When I first started in network marketing, I was advised by some leaders that companies that grow large usually go through four stages of growth to achieve national recognition

1. Formulation: the first year or so when they get the business off the ground. Not much money is made by anyone during that time, including the company.

2. Concentration: the next few years or less when the company goes through a steady growth rate that increases exponentially as time passes

3. Momentum: that period of growth which is straight up on a chart. During that time 90% of the business is built in this country.

4. Stability: where you want to be after the momentum phase. Customer loyalty expands. Companies open in other countries, and if you have an organization in those countries, your business will expand with it. This is why some of the top distributors in Stability companies, (many of which are publicly traded large corporations), are still earning sometimes high six-figure a month incomes.

A man I know named Craig, who worked on an oil rig in Wyoming, joined his first company and in his second and third year earned $1.3 million. When he joined the company where I met him, he said that was easier the second time around, because he already had developed the “millionaire mind set.” His brother in law, also named Craig introduced him to network marketing. Both of these men worked hard for 5 years until the company hit critical mass and went into momentum. They earn more in one month than most company top executives earn in a year.

A real-estate and insurance man named Richard and his wife met a a blue collar worker who invited them to his house for a business presentation. He caught the fire. He worked hard for two years, but spent more than he made. Went on to another company and earned over a million dollars. Went on to his third company where I got to know him and caught momentum. He is estimated to be worth over $100 million today.

A man named Jerry, who was a financial analyst, was so excited about the network marketing business, that he started meetings in South Florida where I met him. In the beginning, the meetings only had around 20 people. Three years later during momentum, they had over 1500 people on a weekly basis. Jerry and his partner went on to earn a six figure a month income. Jerry, being in finance, looked at the growth line of that company early on, and predicted that it would hit critical mass in a few years. He was right. It did.

Janice, a 27 year old divorced woman answered an ad and called a guy named Tony who I sponsored. She signed up and waited for Tony to get her started. Tony had some problems and quit. I went to train her with what very little knowledge I had. By the end of the year Janice became my second executive. The requirements to maintain executive were quite difficult, and Janice almost didn’t make it and almost dropped out by Feb. of the second year. I was depressed. Then I got a call that she had sponsored her ex-father-in law, who immediately sponsored a South African couple who had been diamonds with Amway. They were broke living with 5 kids in a hotel room looking for jobs. They had gone broke in a big real estate deal with their upline. They caught on fire and started to pass out a 1000 cards a day and walked and talked with people. They built fast, and Janice stayed in the business. When the company hit momentum a year later, Janice went on to earn $50,000 a month as did the couple from South Africa. I remember driving Janice’s new NSX sports car which she paid $65,000 cash for. She bought a beautiful house with a pool for cash also. She was only 29. about 4 years ago she was on the cover of Woman’s Day magazine as a self made millionaire in the skin care industry.

I look at Scent-Sations’ growth line, and it is very similar. The same patterns are there. A few top distributors earning multiple six figure incomes. A few more in the six figure range, a number more earning between 5 and 10 k per month, and a nice size group earning $1000 a month or more, part time.

We have a stay at home mom who learned how to market on the Internet and set up a system for herself and her team to duplicate what has driven her organization and her checks to a serious six figure level. I predict that Jackie Ulmer will some day be considered one of the most successful women in the history of network marketing. Why is that? Because she was a pioneer that had a belief that a little candle company from Northeast PA would some day become a big business; She is an innovator who takes her business seriously and looks to help others do the same.

What about the stay at home mom who home schools her kids who also built her business using the Internet? Director, Deb Warren, has built her business to a point that her husband can leave his job and be home with the kids as well while he joins Deb in building the business.

Shep and Jan Kuester literally went into retirement after the first year to build a house in the mountains of Washington. In that short time, Shep was earning more with Scent-Sations than he did at any job or business he had ever been involved with. Jan became more active in the business, and they went back to work and are now earning a very serious income.

John and Lise MacFadden, a Canadian couple who were introduced to our candle by a Bob Murray, a distributor from Maine who had contacted Lise about her Internet marketing auto-responder business, so that she could help him with a marketing campaign. Lise, and husband John, who was the top rep in Canada with a large telecommunications MLM company, came to our first convention, saw the big picture, fell in love with the company, and went on to become Distributors of the Year that year. John and Lise have built a sizeable organization and get to travel around the country recruiting and supporting their team.

Paul Hobson, top distributor with another company, saw this opportunity after visiting with company owners, and came on board in a big way. He became a Director in record time, and has brought some serious leaders on board his team.

Kathy Schneider, a hard-working entrepreneur from Texas who just made triple diamond. Kathy does all forms of advertising and marketing to successfully grow her business.

I predict that the names of all of these people and many more like Kelly Wissink, and Kari Anderson, will some day become household words in the network marketing arena. And they will be followed by some of who are reading this.

Many who have not yet joined our company. I predict that most of the top earners have not yet joined us. But this is the year many of them will. Why? Because we have a real and established story.

If you ask most of these leaders in network marketing what they do or did to become as successful as they did, they will tell you much of the same things with a few variations.

THEY WORK THE BUSINESS LIKE THEIR HAIR IS ON FIRE.

BELIEF in...

Company: be a product of the product, go to the Flings.
Network marketing: read about it and understand it. You don’t know Network marketing until you have done it for a while.
Yourself: most important. If you don’t have it, work at getting it. Most confident self-respecting people at one time suffered from insecurity and low self-esteem. They just built themselves up and worked themselves out of it.

DREAM BIG DREAMS. See an outcome and lifestyle that you are living in your minds eye then it will happen.

DESIRE: A powerful emotion which sends vibrations into the universe and connects with others of like vibration. This is why some people connect with and sponsor strong people. If you have a strong desire to reach the top and expect that you will find others who have the same desire, then it will happen. If you doubt that it is possible and you are afraid to contact strong people, it won’t happen.

WRITE DOWN AND HAVE PICTURES OF YOUR GOALS: set goals bigger than life for the long term, and make your short term goals reachable

LEARN EVERYTHING YOU CAN ABOUT THE BUSINESS. Go through the web site, study the “Roadmap to Success,” listen to all the recorded training calls (found on message board), know the compensation plan “like the palm of your hand.”

BUILD A LARGE LIST OF PROSPECTS: who do you know who burns scented candles? Who do you know who would like to make more money? Who do you know who would like to have more time –freedom and work from home?

BUILD A CHICKEN LIST: Who are the most outgoing, positive, energetic, successful, motivated people you know who always seem to gravitate to other successful people? This is your most important list. Just ask them to review the CD and go to your web site. You may be surprised when some of them become interested in your business.

BE ON AN ONGOING PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM. Tony Robbins calls it CANI (Constant And Never ending Improvement)
Read, listen, learn.

STAY FRESH.

3 STAGES of Growth:
1. I don’t know anything: when you are new and fresh, you are like an empty glass. Open to receive the maximum water it can hold.
2. I know everything: This is the drop out stage. These people know a little. They don’t go on calls, they are not coach-able, and they are not ready to try anything new. Some of them come into this company with a “little” experience and think they “know it all.” Unless they go to phase 3, they are history.
3. I don’t know everything: Some of these distributors have had experience and even some success. They have become humble, sometimes because life left them clues after going through phase 2. They become coachable and open to listen to and practice success principles again

WHATEVER YOU LEARN GIVE AWAY: in the middle east there are two large bodies of water that are fed from the same source. The River Jordan flows into the Sea of Galilee. Water flows from the Sea of Galilee and into the Dead Sea. The Sea of Galilee is teeming with life. All kinds of species of fish and seaweed and plankton live there in abundance. The Dead Sea is just that, dead. There is very little life in those waters. Why? Because even though they are initially fed by the same body of water, the Sea of Galilee has an outlet for water to flow FROM it, while the Dead Sea has no outlet. Our business operates the same way. When you learn something, you will be more successful if you share that knowledge with as many people you can.

PUT LINES IN THE WATER: If you go fishing and have one line in the water with one hook with one piece of bait on it, you could catch a fish if you went to the right spot, and the fish were hungry. What if you had 15 lines in the water with 4 or 5 hooks with a piece of bait on each.

  1. Your list: your rolodex is worth its weight in gold.
  2. Ads:
  3. Internet
  4. Card pass out
  5. Signs on car, billboards, bus stops
  6. Shirts and hats
  7. Shows and booths
  8. Skywriting
  9. Tattoos on your forehead or butt saying “We make scents you make dollars.”
  10. Dog with a votive in his mouth and a business card in his collar.
  11. Any way you can.

LEARN HOW TO DEAL WITH REJECTION
Don’t tell your goals to the trolls. You know who they are. Negative dream stealers. Wait until after you achieve your goals before you tell them about them. Then tell them. After you tell them, even then they are going to say, “I don’t believe it.” If they don’t believe it after it happens, what are they going to say about your dreams?

Waitress offers cup of coffee to everyone at a table. They all say no. No,no,no,no. she doesn’t go into the kitchen, throw the pot against the wall, rip off her apron, and say “I quit, I can’t handle the rejection,” does she? No, because that is not rejection. Rejection is when you come home and find the locks changed, and your clothes are on the lawn.

RECRUIT, SPONSOR, RECRUIT SPONSOR all day long. This is a numbers game. The more mud you throw at the wall, something is going to stick. Mark Yarnell says that when he is in recruit mode, he talks with 30 new people a day to introduce the opportunity to them. In his fourth month in his first company he did that, and earned an incredible $15k that month.

In the beginning spend 100% of time contacting people about the opportunity as well as selling product. Then when you have a team of 100 or more, spend 90% of time recruiting 10% support. When you have over 1000 on your team and you are a Director, spend 80% of time recruiting and 20% support. When you have 5,000 on you team, spend 70% of time recruiting and 30% supporting team. When you have 50,000 or more on team, you are famous and can go around country giving seminars and shake lots of hands and give lots of hugs and kiss babies. Use the tools (conference calls, “Roadmap”, recorded calls etc.) to get your people trained.

DURING MOMENTUM A LEADER WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR TRAINING AND MEETINGS FOR THEIR TEAM AROUND THE COUNTRY.

IF WE ARE IN MOMENTUM, AND YOUR TEAM IS NOT YET IN MOMENTUM, DOUBLE AND TRIPLE YOUR EFFORTS OR YOU WILL BE STANDING ON THE CORNER WHEN THE PARADE IS A MILE DOWN THE ROAD.

Dave Lewis: The Mia Bella Fund Raiser King
Editor's Note: Dave does his fundraising business “part time” around his 40 hour work week as an inspector for the city of Wilkes-Barre, Pa. He has averaged at least one fundraiser every 10 days for close to 3 years! He has been a guest speaker at every Fling since the first one!

“I sold my first fundraiser in September of 2002. The school sold 700 candles. At that point in time I knew I had a business. But, how did I go out and get more?”

A
Well I used the first thing that worked for me! Word of mouth, (Do you burn Candles)? I can’t tell you how many fundraisers we have gotten using this method. And I still use this same method today. After I asked them if they burn candles, I would let them know I do a lot of fundraisers. I then ask them if they know of anyone, or any organization who maybe looking for a fundraiser?

Why our Candle? Why because we have the Best Candle on the market today, both for burning and for doing fundraisers!

I then tell them why ours is the best!

a) Triple Scented
b) Burns virtually soot free
c) Non Toxic,
d) Cotton Wicks
e) The scent will be the same from top to bottom, GUARANTEED!
f) Organizations are making a lot of money with our product!

We have a lot of organizations doing repeat fundraisers because they are getting good results! Plus the parents are asking them to, because they want our Candle! If they don’t know a distributor, where are they going to get it?

B
The second method I use is looking in the newspaper for organizational meetings. Such as high school sports groups, you may see them as SOCCER CLUB BOOSTER MEETING, TUESDAY NIGHT AT 7:00PM AT THE SCHOOL CAFETERIA. Some times there is a phone number associated with the meeting listed. If there is, I will call upon them let them know who I am and what I do. Simply offer them an avenue for a fundraiser, or I will ask if I can attend their meeting and give a short presentation about our fundraiser.

If, there is no number to call, I will just show up at the meeting, with all the materials I need for a presentation. I actually carry these materials in my vehicle all the time. You never know where you’re going to end up at any time. I’m always prepared! Here is what I take:

  • I take both a full jar candle and one that has been burned. Why? To show them how clean the candles burn.
I’ll take enough brochures to give to everyone at the meeting. You never know what other organizations they may belong to.
  • I’ll take 2 to 3 votives to pass around, and let them fight over them.
  • I’ll take in a sample order form and a sample master sheet.
  • I explain to them briefly why our candle is so popular.

Then simple instructions: I will give them as many order forms as they need, along with one master sheet. They will go out and sell for approx. two weeks, collecting the money as they sell! The only two things that come back to me are the master sheet and the check made out to my business name. Typical turn-around time is two weeks. My stickers will be at the bottom of each candle. If there is shipping or tax involved they will pay it.

Who does fundraising? Grade schools, Private schools, High Schools, All forms of sports boosters, (basketball, baseball, field hockey, soccer, swimming, bowling, little league, mini football, etc.), Bands, Choirs, Special needs children, Day Care Centers, Animal shelters, Colleges and University’s, Parent Teacher organizations, you name it. The list goes on and on. Any non-profit group that is organized is always looking to make money. A lot of for-profit groups as well.

All that I do is simply offer them an avenue for a fundraiser.

And, just like any other business, you have to accept no’s. Sometimes a lot of no’s, sometimes just a few. It’s part of the business. Just don’t give up! If a baseball player strikes out at the plate, does he quit? If a football player fumbles the ball does he give up? It takes time and dedication! It all depends what you want out of it. Before you know it you’ll be more successful than I am, and I’ll be coming to you for answers.

Good Luck, and Have Fun!

Hometown Heroes

Ryan BrodaHi, I stumbled across your site and your support of our troops impressed me greatly. I would like to tell you about my son, Ryan Broda, because he is my Hometown Hero. He will be 23 years old this month.

He wanted to join the Air Force Reserves and his wife, Amy, agreed to let that happen in spite of the fact that it would take him away from her and their three children – Maria (9), Catline (3), and Jackson (1). He left home last June, and just returned in mid-March from his Aerospace Medical Transport training.

Yesterday, he found out that he is leaving again for another 30 days of training, and upon completion of that training he will be deployable. His absence has been hard on their family. However, Ryan has such a sense of accomplishment and pride, especially when he is wearing the uniforms that reflect his desire to serve America. I have been employed as an RN at a VA Medical Center for over 20 years, and Ryan grew up with the belief that service to our country is not an obligation so much as it is an honor. Thank you for hearing our story.

Chili Vanilli Cake Roll Recipe from Jen Burnham

VANILLA FILLING
16 oz Cream cheese; room temperature
1/2 c Sugar
2 lg Eggs; at room temperature
1 tb Milk
2 ts Vanilla

ORANGE CAKE
5 lg Eggs; at room temperature
2/3 c  Sugar
1 tb Grated orange peel
1 ts Vanilla
1 c  Flour
2 tb Unsalted butter; melted
1/3 c  Powdered sugar
Candied citrus slices* for garnish

1. Preheat oven to 375°. Lightly grease bottom of a 15 1/2x10 1/2" jelly roll pan. Line with wax paper, grease paper.

2. Prepare filling: Beat cream cheese and sugar just until smooth. Beat in eggs, milk and vanilla just until blended. DO NOT OVERBEAT. Spread in pan evenly.

3. Prepare Cake: Beat eggs, sugar, orange peel & vanilla at least 12 minutes until very thick, pale and at least tripled in volume. The eggs are the only leavening used in this cake so this is very important. Sprinkle with flour; fold until just
blended. Spread evenly over filling.

4. Bake 19-21 minutes or until cake springs back when touched in center.

5. While cake is baking, sift powdered sugar over an area on a clean dish towel the size of the cake.

6. Invert cake onto towel; remove pan and peel off wax paper. Roll up, starting at narrow end, using towel to help. Cool completely on a wire rack.

When ready to serve, garnish with candied citrus slices. Cake can be wrapped and refrigerated up to one week before serving.

Distributor of the Month: Donna Davis
Donna DavisMy name is Donna Davis. I live in sunny Tucson, AZ with my husband Bill and our two sons, John (13 ½) and Liam (12). Our two other kids are the four-legged kind – a black shepherd mix and a miniature pinscher. I started with Scent-Sations on September 1, 2005 and reached Diamond in October (while everyone was at Fall Fling) but my journey in finding this company started many years earlier.

I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit and started and built two different local businesses. But at one point in my thirties, I lost all rational thought and decided I should take a shot at climbing the corporate ladder. I was VP of Operations for an international telecommunications company. I traveled a lot and missed a lot of my sons’ early years.

When I was 39 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I did a lot of reading at that time about the reasons people get cancer (not biologically but more on the subconscious level). I grew so much personally during that time. But after I was treated, I went right back into my stressful career (obviously still not thinking rationally!).

Five years later I was diagnosed with hairy cell leukemia. This got my attention and I knew I needed to make some major changes in my life.

The company I was working for was going through a difficult merger and my stress level was off the charts. So I started looking for a home-based business and gravitated to the health and wellness industry. I heard about residual income and I jumped in.

I gradually phased out of my corporate job and worked my network marketing business full-time. I built a team of almost 1,000 people and that check became our primary family income. As I was building my team, I learned that once I had reached a certain level with that company, I no longer had residual income. I had to meet various requirements in order to get my full check and if I stopped working for any reason, my check plummeted to a couple hundred dollars.

I felt trapped. If I stopped working, my check disappeared. So I kept working until early in 2005. At that time, I told my husband that I was done. I couldn’t continue working with that company. After he picked himself off the floor, we moved to Plan B. I started back up my accounting services and had referrals for clients almost immediately. But that income isn’t what I had been making or knew I could make with network marketing so I started looking again at a variety of other businesses.

Nothing fit until my friend, Angela Thompson, called me in August and told me about Scent-Sations. I talked to Kelly Wissink and Jackie Ulmer and I was very impressed with the leadership I saw. But then I needed to get some critical questions answered and so I went straight to Mr. VP, Charlie Umphred. I knew after talking to Charlie this was exactly where I wanted to be. Here’s what was important in my search and what I learned:

  1. Quality, consumable products. Our candles are top-of-the-line, and people love them, burn them and then need more!
  2. Competitive retail prices. Unlike many other companies, we have products that can be retailed competitively and still make good profit.
  3. A management team with integrity and vision. Bobby and Charlie know network marketing and direct sales so they know what it means to be a distributor. This company truly thinks of their distributors when making decisions and, to me, that’s rare.
  4. A fun business. At this stage in my life, “fun” is a big factor. There are no quotas and no pressure here. And my family understands this business so they’re a part of what I do.
  5. Options on how to earn money. With most other companies you either retail or recruit. Here each distributor gets to choose how THEY want to build their business.
  6. True residual income. I wanted to be absolutely positive that if for any reason I wanted or needed to take a break or to stop all together (which I can’t imagine doing) that my check would still be there. It will be!

With that knowledge, I committed to building a strong business with Scent-Sations. I scheduled home parties and crafts shows for the holiday season last year. But my love is team building, so now I’m doing a combination of activities to attract others to this business. Several of my articles have been published. I place ads online and offline. I participate in our team’s lead co-op program and, of course, I talk to people.

I’ve been cancer-free now for over four years and I’m healthier than ever. But after having that experience it’s wonderful to know, without a doubt, that I am building a life-long business for my family.

I just returned from Spring Fling which absolutely confirmed that I’m with the right company and I’m definitely here at the right time. It was wonderful to meet everyone at the home office and so many other quality distributors. Thanks to Charlie, Bobby, Carmen, Lynn and everyone at the home office, my support team and also my awesome distributors. I’ve found my “home” and I’m riding this wave all the way to the top!
