Hometown Hero: Robert P. Rivera
Laura Micalizzi sent this in about her fiancee:
"I would like to 'honor' my fiancee, Sergeant First Class Robert P. Rivera......who is currently serving in Iraq.
Bobby and I are originally from Hoboken, NJ. We met almost 30 years ago! Right after we graduated high school, Bobby joined the U.S. Army, was stationed in Fort Eustis, Virginia, and has been enlisted ever since. He is currently in the 302nd Transportation Company. He served in Desert Storm and just recently went on his second tour in Iraq.
Bobby and I have always been the best of friends and have always had a special bond. Although we lived separate lives, our connection never faded. From meeting when we were around 7 or 8 years old, dating in high school, keeping in constant contact, and finally 'becoming a couple' now....Bobby and I believe we are soul mates and plan to get married when he comes home for R&R.
Bobby and I have always loved each other, but due to his military career, it just wasn't the right time for us. Bobby and I share such a wonderful love, and being apart from one another right now is very, very difficult. If it weren’t for the help of my family I would feel so lost. In my head and my heart I know Bobby will be safe and will return home as quickly as possible.
Saying 'be careful' and watching his bus leave for the airport the other day was one of the toughest things I have ever had to do. Now, I’m counting the days he will come home and this is the first time in my life where I want to get older quickly! The faster this year goes by, the sooner it will be for Bobby and I to be in each other's arms again.
I want to wish ALL U.S. Soldiers a safe and quick return home. And to their families.....we're all each others family too....let's stick together and support one another through these extremely hard times we've been faced with."
Thank you so much,
Laura Micalizzi
